Hi Mojo. This is actually quite common when the car has a few years under it’s belt. The occupancy sensor, activates when a passenger/driver is not wearing a seat belt and will sound a warning alarm. Now, sometimes these can go wrong. Over time seats sag or bucket inwards. The sagging can placed pressure onto the sensors. You will have to get this looked at. Take it to BWM service or a BMW independent. Good Luck!
